Costa Daurada

The light of the Mediterranean

Just south of the cool city of Tarragona and all the way to the Delta de l'Ebre, the Costa Daurada lives up to its name thanks to the beaches, large stretches of golden sand that invite you to take long walks by the sea and let yourself be carried away by the sea breeze that brings us closer to the Mediterranean happiness.

HIGHLIGHTS

The Costa Daurada is a destination that merges history, culture and beautiful beaches.

Notable sites include Tarragona, with its Roman heritage; Salou, with a lively atmosphere day and night; the PortAventura World theme park, where fun for the whole family is guaranteed; Cambrils, where you can still breathe the atmosphere of a fishing village; Reus, with its modernist buildings; Siurana, a fairytale town with magnificent views; the Poblet Monastery, a UNESCO heritage site, or El Vendrell, where you will find the Pau Casals Museum.

TRADITIONS

The Costa Daurada shares traditions with the rest of Catalonia; local festivals, Castellers tradition, the Sardana dance, modernist architecture and events such as the festivals of Santa Tecla in Tarragona or Santa Teresa in Vila-seca. These traditions showcase the rich cultural heritage of this region, providing the visitor with a unique experience.

CULTURE

The Costa Daurada hosts a series of notable celebrations such as festivities, processions, sporting events, concerts, cultural activities, etc. Highlights include the Castells Competition in Tarragona and the Tarraco Viva Festival, which celebrates the city's Roman historical heritage and takes place in May at different museums and archaeological sites of the Costa Daurada.

GASTRONOMY

Its gastronomy is recognized for the mix of fresh flavors and the rich Catalan culinary heritage. Its iconic dishes are paella, xató, fish and seafood stews and winter specialties such as calçots. In January, the town of Valls celebrates the Gran Calçotada where everyone who wants can experience the challenge of being the person who eats the most calçots during the contest that takes place. Another essential is to enjoy a good vermouth in one of the bars in the area or at the Vermouth Museum in Reus itself.
